LIPSTICKS: WHO DOES NOT LOVE TO HAVE A GOOD LIPSTICK?

This boom with cosmetics in the last years is incredible. So many brands, so many colours, so many artificial products and so many novelties! But how will we know which lipstick is the best one? There are three questions when it comes to lipsticks:

1)    Do they suit you (colour wise)?

2)    Will you ever find the perfect colour?

3)    Which are my favourite(s)?

So basically, I have three main questions to answer very shortly. But then I will tell you a summary of my experiences about the lipsticks, brands, textures, pigments, colours… will share you a great variety of them from each brand. The colour range is from red to orange, from orange to pink and purple. But there are a few nude colours which are closer to brown as well. Never liked brown as a lipstick but maybe till I find the right colour I should just shut up.

Let’s start with the first question.
Does every lipstick suit everyone? It is not possible. I will give some suggestions for those who have a wheat coloured skin. Like mine. You think everything suits you, well it is not true! If you have not had much makeup on your face, a frozen-matte rose would be good, but not every type of nude or pink will suit you. Do not delude yourself and do not buy things that you will regret! Well, you can always give it to someone else who you think would be happier with it.

If you are not as white as milk, you need to be more careful with your choices. A beautiful matte orange would be suiting you well. A light shiny orange... Here are some of those that might suit you, have a look (please see the photos for yourself):

  1) Kiko – Dark Treasure Metal Lip Stylo (02) Christmas shiny brown (evening and special occasions) It is for Christmas but shines all year!

 2) Kiko - Velvet passion (315) Matte pink (every day): Used this for years and years, cannot tell you how many of it I have eaten till now.

3)Kiko – Glossy Dream (203) – (evening and special occasions): It is nice but a bit of a strong pink, so I do not suggest it for daily use. It is more summerish!

4) Kiko-Matte fuchsia Velvet Passion (evening and special occasions): Nice for the evening and sometimes also morning, a dark pink but a good one!

 5) Mac - Brave (every day and at work as well)- finished it and cannot share with you but you can find and check easily! It is very subtle and undertone pink.

6) Mac-Please me (32) Matte (special occasions)- It shouts to be pleased, not everyday use!

  7) Mac – Modesty – Creemsheen (A77) (nude and perfect for everyday use): It never dries the lips.

  8) Mac – Matte Pink Plaid (33): Hard to apply but a very real and sincere pink. Not too much, not too less.

  9) Clarins – Woodberry Joli rouge velvet (759 V) (every day and work): Wonderful, about to finish. Daily use and nice dinner outing time as well...

10) Urban Decay - Backtalk (every day): It is similar to my Kiko matte so I think I might use it for a while instead of Kiko, or I will see what the real difference between them is and update you accordingly.

11)Clinique –cake pop (01) – matte pink nude (everyday use nude): Personally do not use it that often but it is matte and nude, so it can be used every day as well.

12) Clinique Plushest Punch (05) Chubby lipstick: Strong pink, shiny and nice to apply. I suggest Clinique's pencil lipsticks, they are very nice!

13)BE – Beloved (003) - pink shiny lipstick (depends on your taste): Do not like glosses but this one is love!

14)Maybelline – Charmer (62) - liquid brown nude lipstick (every day, work, special occasions): Nude brown and goes well with all kind of colours and makeup.

15)Maybelline – Nude flush (05) - Vivid matte liquid: Very beautiful pink, should use it more often but I prefer the others since sometimes it is hard to apply the liquid matte lipsticks.

16)Balmain- Loreal (Fever) - Orangish brownish colour matte (every day and at work): nice job but one defect is there. When it goes away it leaves a colour as if you have eaten spaghetti with tomato sauce.

17)Loreal – Rock’n Move (203) - purple (evening) this colour will look so nice on you. It is shiny and creamy… Since it is finished I cannot share it here...

18) Chanel – Eternal (118) (everyday wear)

19) Bodyshop – Fuchsia (special occasions and fashion shows) (interestingly good, chalky but staying long): Very recently bought this one, worth the money. We will see.

20) Bodyshop – Sydney Amaryliss (014) red matte (special occasions) (Wonderful): Special occasions are great for this lipstick and this lipstick is great for special occasions.

21) Bodyshop – Lima Magenta Matte (425): Wonderful crazy pink but a bit too strong for daylight, at least I see it that way.

22) Diego Dalla Palma – Geisha (07) - Fuchsia (special occasions): Nice one, but thank you, do not want to become a Geisha!

23) Collistar – Rosso Amaranto (63) (special occasions, evenings, dinners): Very special occasions, nice orange like Tuscany colours.

24) Yves Rocher – Grand Rouge Satin (107): Good for everyday use, but apply twice as it is not so opaque at first.

25) Flormar – PL 01 Vanilla Sufle (every day): Good colour, thanks Flormar!

26) Flormar – PL 03 – Nut cookie (everyday): Wonderful colour, everyday use, between pink and brown and between orange and pink... however, it sticks to everything you drink and eat. So be careful! And it is surprisingly hydrating.

27) Dior Lip Sugar Scrub (001): Probably you have heard about it. It makes people happy as good as it gets.

28) The essence of Nature (462): I cannot show it as it broke. Cause it is supernatural, never dries the lips, good brand but please do find a solution to early loss of the lipstick that is so enjoyable to use.

29) Revlon Amethyst Shell - Pearl (424): all good but new, so I cannot tell much yet, for sure ambitious but at the same time elegant colours.

30) Revlon Abstract Orange Pearl (026): Nice and original colour. Like it for the evening.

31) Revlon Pink sizzle (810): Nice pink, not every day but yes evening and events...

32) Estee Lauder Pure colour envy – strange bloom   (liquid matte) (403): This one talks! Only if I could apply it better, long-lasting, beautiful colour. Good texture, easy dry, and moreover, it does not stick here and there.

33) Estee Lauder Pure colour envy – matte “Stronger” (420): It has not made me stronger yet. But I can say that the colour is very attractive and even without makeup just with this lipstick, the heads might turn to you.

34) Estee Lauder Rebellious rose – pure colour envy (420): Wonderful pigment and wonderful red!

Let’s answer the second question. Will you ever find the perfect lipstick? With the increase in the numbers of the brands and types and colours of lipsticks, it seems impossible. You will not find it. It is always good to have different colours, but one should be careful not to buy too many similar colours from different brands, as they look different and they have different names but the touch, texture and colour might be interestingly very very similar. So try to find one good red lipstick, one good matte for daily wear (a colour that fits with almost everything) and something crazy like a purple or fuchsia when you want to be a bit “too much”. Currently, have many lipsticks but the ones that I have finished and loved and rebought were these ones:

1)    Clarin's jolly rouge series (I love almost all the colours)

2)    Kiko- Velvet passion (315) Matte pink (every day)

3)    Dior – sugar scrub (01)

My favourites of all times: suggested also to you

There was a Kiko from matte series that I was in love with but could not find it again as they changed packages, it must be hidden somewhere in the shop. Hard to find it tough as their shapes and series have changed tremendously and I used to prefer the previous choices of matte that they had six years ago.

Clarins I think has wonderful lipsticks and they are all joyful and nice to use. They don’t dry your lips and they have a good choice of colours both shiny and matte. The shiny ones are subtle so you can also wear them during the day easily.

Dior’s sugar scrub is a bit expensive but as a scrub, a successful one and it takes a long time to finish it… depends if you need it or if you prefer, sugar, lemon and mint to scrub your lips J

MAC cream sheen does not dry your lips, it is nice and shiny. It looks modest, especially Modesty!

Amongst all the brands I tried, Estee Lauder is a wonder! It is expensive but the best value for money. The colours are so great and the quality is so good, both the creamy and matte are wonderful. The rebellious rose is a great colour for special occasions!

When it comes to Revlon, Revlon is also good quality and it does not stick easily to as you eat and drink, it is also long-lasting and easy to put on your lips as its pigmentation is very good.

Yves rocher’s pigmentation is also good but you need to apply it a couple of times to get the real colour.

Then there is, of course, Chanel Eternal, which is a great everyday use colour. I love it as it is something between business reddish and mad Bordeaux.

Last but not least, Zao Essence of Nature is a great Italian brand, natural, nothing artificial or harmful in it. But it comes from this naturalness that they break easily… and they melt easily. So it could be a good idea to keep your lipsticks in the fridge in hotter places and hotter times, otherwise, they might break and you might need to melt them via a spoon on a candle and put them in a small pot not to lose them. However, those that I wanted to use with that method, unfortunately, were never used again… as it is always easier to apply the lipstick rather than using a brush to put on the lipstick, at least for me, it is like that…
